SaaS ‒ software as a service

Software as a service (SaaS) is software that is supplied to customers over the Internet using a pay-as-you-go model (on demand). The vendor takes care of the hardware, security and maintainance.

Instead of purchasing a license, a user pays a monthly fee ‒ similar to a rental agreement.

SaaS is highly scaleable. SaaS solution providers are able to quickly respond to customer requirements because the software is hosted centrally.
